Summary/Abstract: Tin an effort to shed light on the determinants, characteristics and manife¬stations of the biomedical society, the author analyzed the following questions and problems: (1) characteristics of the new era, (2) the relationship between health, money and power, (3) tendencies of total control over man throughout his life of life, (4) disputes over transhumanism and the possibility of fundamental chan¬ges to the human body, and (5) ethical collisions generated by the development of biotechnology. In the end, the author concludes that the perspectives of the growth of biotechnology opportunities represent a supplementary argument in favor of democracy - since the monopolistic use of power over the body creates new opportunities for abuse by an unchangeable elite.
