Summary/Abstract: This article studies the work of a French sociologist and historian Raymond Aron, who analyzed the dangers and the risks of the modern society. Modern society, which he called „an industrial society“ according to his sociological methodology based on using principles of the ideal types, is under danger and risk of the ideological movements, which lead to the totalitarism. Ideological movement is possible to be recognized even in democratic western society through consequences of ideas used in marxistic philosophy, which was absorbed in French existencialism, structuralism and engaged critical sociology. Raymond Aron proposed the methodology of „history of ideas“ which is able to explicate from the past till today „history of presence“. It means not only working with historical facts, but moreover, there should be declared the theoretical background of research. Raymond Aron brought with his style of researching a solid and actual analysis, which is still applicable for the work in the human sciences. That is the reason why, today, in the 20th anniversary of the fall of the iron curtain, Aron’s thinking is still actual.
