Convergence in financial supervision in the European Union – the idea and directions of undertaken actions

Summary/Abstract: The increasing degree of financial market integration causes that problems in one member state create the threats for financial stability of the whole European Union. It causes that ensuring appropriate regulations and effective supervision become indispensable in all member states. That is why undertaking efforts into the convergence in the European financial markets supervision is crucial in financial system reforming. Such a convergence runs in two directions: regulatory convergence and convergence in methodology and supervisory actions. The former is represented by implementing many directives regulating actions of banks and other institutions from the financial sector. An example of the second kind of convergence is constituting new European financial supervisory system.
