The evolution of Romania's energy security in the period 1989-2023

Summary/Abstract: This article fills a gap in the literature by explaining the dynamics and evolution of Romania’s energy sector in the post-communist period, generated by the process of democratization and institutional settlement. Emphasizing the model of democratic construction and integration into the Western picture, by following the models of reforming the energy sector, I rely on secondary data that include official documents of national institutions that’s operates in the energy sector and press reports. The results of the analysis indicate that the evolution of Romania's energy sector over the last 30 years is a sinusoidal one, and the democratization process catalyzed the reform and evolution of this sector, in accordance with international standards.
