Summary/Abstract: Political science as a field of study emerged in Romania only after the fall of the communist regime, which makes it a relatively new discipline in the Eastern European countries. Two of its subdisciplines – international relations and European studies – were also confirmed together as a distinct field in the nomenclature created by the governing bodies for higher education in Romania. Recently, a subsection of the international relations area has also been declared an independent field under the name of security studies. We are talking about 53 bachelor's programs and 80 master's programs organized in 24 universities. We analyze them together, from three points of view: firstly, of the scientific and institutional vocabulary, secondly, of the research objects and, thirdly, of the academic staff.
