Summary/Abstract: The academic field of political science has a history of more than a century and a half, during which time it has been focused on the major themes of the construction of the modern state and Romanian civil society. Belonging to this professional field, in different forms and levels of depth, has been an "extreme sport", sometimes (especially in the times of the Legionary Rising and then in Communism) attracting huge personal risks. In post-communism, the identity of political science was forged through an epistemological break with scientific socialism, including three major stages: the birth of university and postgraduate education, the creation of a specialized literature and the insertion (acceptance) of political science graduates into old or new professions on the labor market. Our article first proposes a quick historical overview of the hypostases of political reflection from the 19th century to the fall of communism, and then stops at the experience of post-communist refoundation, along the path of institutional construction that took place in two universities - one state and one private.
