Summary/Abstract: The paper is focused on the philosophical issue of man and power, which is analysed within basic philosophical paradigms: ontological, gnoseological, axiological, anthropological and linguistic. The analysis and comparison of particular traits of each paradigm lead to setting three approaches to understanding man: essential, existential and interpretative. The article primarily deals with essential and interpretative approaches. The power possessing man has different forms: universal law, God’s will, political order, nature inside and outside us etc. The most dangerous forms of power are those we are unaware of.
