Summary/Abstract: The protection of children’s rights has become an integral part of the national and international legal documents. There is an ambiguity in definition of child soldiers and a guarantee of children’s protection in situations of armed conflicts and their participation in them. The aim of the article is to analyse that definition ambiguity. First, the text summarizes particular present international standards agreed for the protection of children in armed conflicts. Further, it analyses the way of definition of child by these international norms, particularly, how children’s participation in armed forces is defined and legally formulated, and their direct or indirect involvement in armed conflicts.
