Summary/Abstract: Transport infrastructure and the vehicles that run on it can be ideal targets for terrorists. This is true both for rail transport and for the trains themselves, especially those carrying dangerous goods. Hazardous materials released as a result of a possible terrorist attack can cause far greater damage in terms of human life, material and natural assets than the damage caused by simply blowing up a train. This article describes the rail environment in which dangerous goods are transported, then the relationship between terrorism and rail transport, and finally suggests possible protection methods and procedures of the infrastructure
