Summary/Abstract: The aim of this contribution is to present an analysis – on the base of Austrian legislation, education policy documents and secondary literature – new, comprehensive knowledge of the Austrian Fachhochschulen sector. It works on principles very different from Czech higher education institutions. Another aim is to point out, according to this model, the existence which is not adequately reflected in Czech conditions although it appears to be very inspiring for the future direction of our higher education institutions. A great attention is paid to the accreditation process that takes into account the needs of practice consequently.
