Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the modern state of the Russian language at present. Its functioning on the territory of the former USSR states as well as the reasons of increased interest in European, Asian, and African countries are under examination. The role of the government policy in the process of the Russian language popularization abroad is taken into consideration, as well.
