Summary/Abstract: Feminism as a social and intellectual movement in its broadest sense aims to improve the position of women as members of social communities. Feminism thus shows and criticizes the inferior position of women, usually with an explanation of the cause of such a condition. The feminist movement simultaneously advocates and promotes the image of a desirable society in which women would enjoy freedom and equality. Therefore, to reach such a goal, this movement, sometimes less, sometimes more assertively, is accompanied by a series of demands and goals. The main thesis of feminism is that throughout history, men have dominated women who were subordinated to them in different ways. This caused numerous inequalities and injustices. The most common problem that women face on a daily basis is patriarchy and tradition that clearly and openly privileges men, while women are being put in the background. This paper presents the beginning and development of feminism in Iranian society. The paper highlights the most common problems that Iranian women throughout history have been facing with, as well as their struggle for equal rights in society. In addition, the paper presents some of the most important feminist activists and writers, as well as their contribution to the struggle for equality and women’s freedom.
