An incursion into the evolution and development of the National Bank of Moldova

Summary/Abstract: Currently, the banking sphere in the Republic of Moldova is probably the field that arouses interest of the whole society. This fact is due, firstly, to the banking fraud of billions of Moldovan lei and, secondly, to the scandalous bankruptcies of commercial banks. Both phenomena emptied the state budget and led to the impoverishment of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. The respective events determined the need for substantial reforms in the banking sector. Therefore, we are witnessing the efforts of the National Bank of Moldova (supreme authority of the central public administration with attributions in the regulation and supervision of banking activity) to reconfigure the banking legal framework, having as its main objective the non-admission of the repetition of banking frauds in the future or other abusive actions. At the same time, in the content of the scientific study, the issue of the transposition of European Union practices and legislation into the national banking legislation will be examined.
