Summary/Abstract: The article aims to analyze the theme of sleep and dreaming in comic books about the adventures of Tytus, Romek, and A’Tomek by Henryk J. Chmielewski (1923-2021). The choice of the topic results not only from the popularity of this motif in his works, but also from the multifaceted nature and multitude of cultural references. The article is divided into two parts, in which we will analyze the motives and types of dreams appearing in Chmielewski’s comics and how he understood them. An essential part of the text will explain the four functions of dreams used by Chmielewski. First, sleep is limited to sleep and is only a physiological process. Secondly, the dream is the motive behind the construction and development of the adventures of the three heroes. Third, sleep is related to the practicalities of everyday life. Fourth, Chmielewski used dreams to explain the psychological structure of the characters and predict the future.
