Prevention of female criminality through corrective measures and re-education of women sentenced to prison

Summary/Abstract: A series of problems are addressed in this article, that refer to the correction and re-education of women sentenced to prison terms through the lens of the provisions of national and international legislation that aim at the treatment applied to persons deprived of liberty. Thus, it is found that in the process of execution of the sentence, the emphasis should be placed on programs and psychosocial activities applied and adapted to the realities of prison life, which will subsequently contribute to the gradual regaining of the woman’s ability to live ordinarily in society. Finally, certain measures are proposed, which should be part of the recidivism prevention strategy for women who have committed various categories of criminal acts.
