Current Preparedness in Population Protection in Case of Extensive Power Outage in Canada, the United States of America and the Czech Republic – Balance

Summary/Abstract: Extensive power outages are in a modern company, which depends on the electricity supply, a great risk with far-reaching impacts on its safety, economy, and especially on the life and health of the population. In the recent years Europe and America have been affected by several serious failures connected with supply interruption of large areas of electricity. These large outages are briefly mentioned in the introduction, including a description of their causes and consequences. The paper is a summary of the current state of approaches to raise the awareness and prepare people for power outages in the world, not forgetting the reflection of the conditions in the Czech Republic. The attention is paid to the most important activities of organizations operating in the field of the issue.
