Summary/Abstract: The term “hybrid war” in the contemporary period has become the subject of extensive analysis by theorists, decision makers and observatories, especially after the events of March 2014 related to the occupation of Crimea by the Russian Federation. This issue is no longer limited to the interests of military strategists, but has entered the wider political arena as a significant security challenge for the West.States continue to be involved in military and economic competition, armed conflicts remain inevitable, security dilemmas and balancing powers remain at the forefront in the context of ensuring regional and international security. However, the modus operandi has changed significantly. Conflicts are carried out in new, innovative and radically different ways than those known so far. With the advent of the elements of modern hybrid warfare, they are moving away from the methods of enforcing lethal force and the classical laws of war. This article seeks to place the controversial hybrid war in a broader analytical and historical context and to summarize the discussions on this concept and the related strategic concepts.
