Summary/Abstract: ESP is a topic of interest and subject of many scientific studies. Research all over the world deals with a number of aspects related to this topic. One of them is the methodology for teaching ESP. The paper is focused on translation as one of the activities often related to teaching ESP. By means of analysing written work of a sample group of students in the second semester of a two-semester course of English for Mechanical Engineering, the author tries to detect any similarities in students´ errors in written translation of an authentic professional text. The objective is to identify the most common mistakes in translating Czech structures into English in order to adapt ESP teaching to improve translation abilities of the students and associated writing skills.
