Summary/Abstract: In this paper it has been researched the primordially place and origin of creation and sacramental usage of Holy Myrrh in the Early Church, as well as its possible sanctification in the Serbian Orthodox Church until the XVIII century. First of all, the author has examined some liturgical sources and testimonies of the Holy Fathers and teachers of the Eastern Orthodox Church, stating that the Sacrament of Holy Chrism has a very important theological and liturgical function in the process of Christian Initiation. Nevertheless, the ancient city of Antioch has been recognized as the place where was established the practice of anointing of newly-baptized Christians by Holy Myrrh. Further on, the author has examined possible sanctification of Holy Myron in the Serbian Orthodox Church during the era of St. Sava Nemanjic, according to Theodosius’ Life of Saint Sava and Epistle of Pope Innocent IV to Bishop of Tusculanum, from the 6th of April 1254. Above all, such a hipothesy was confirmed by the testimony from the first quarter of the XVth century, precisely with the 20th answer of Constantinopolitan Patriarch Gennadius II Scholarius (1454–1464) to Serbian ruler (despot) Djuradj Brankovic (1427–1456), which was dedicated to the process of preparation of the ingridients used for the rite of sanctification of Holy Myrrh.
