Spatial Planning Documents and the Expansion of Industrial Farms in Rural Municipalities in Poland

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article was to define the role of spatial planning in preventingthe expansion of industrial farms. The activities of large-scale farms are associated with anumber of nuisances faced by the inhabitants of the neighboring areas, as well as witha negative impact on individual components of the environment. The aim of the study wasto indicate the role of planning documents along with the guidelines contained in themand arrangements in preventing the expansion of industrial farms. Only detailed planningdocuments are able to prevent spatial and social conflicts caused by the creation of farmsin inappropriate places and will contribute to reducing the nuisance caused by areasof specialised animal production. The authorities of rural municipalities should strivefor the gradual preparation of local plans, which are an effective solution for maintainingspatial order.
