Summary/Abstract: Out of the entire history of Corvin Castle in Transylvania, the first half of 19th century actually remains less studied. But a closer look over the documentary sources reveals a natural and normal dynamic within the existence of the castle. This is reflected in the attention afforded to the monument by the authorities as well as the effervescent activity of the headquarters of the Mine Administration. The amounts of money allocated for the refurbishment of the spaces (as well as increasing the comfort levels) financing the numerous repairs executed within this period as well as the personal involvement of the local elites in maintaining the castle indicate the great importance granted to the monument. The common efforts during the period resulted not only in keeping the monument as a functional space but also preserving and conserving it. This was noticed by Marshall Marmont and by John Paget, two foreign travellers who noted the good organization and maintenance of the whole ensemble but also the elegance of the salons set up in the circular towers. Therefore, the castle is in the focus of countless visual representations and articles published in periodicals and is never skipped by foreigners visiting Transylvania. That could be indicative of architectural and symbolic value within the collective mentality marked by Romanticism. This derived from the glory and personality of those that built it, their notoriety far surpassing the local and regional borders.
