Summary/Abstract: In his essay, the author gives an account of the university lectures of the ethnograp¬her Piotr Bogatyriov delivered at Comenius University in Bratislava (from 1936 to 1939). Briefly, he recalls the names of several reputable educators (Jan Mukarovsky, Jan Eisner, Vilem Prazak), who shaped the views of the five students of ethnography and folklore studies in those years, namely of Andrej Melichercik, Marta Havlujova, Jan Brezina, Viktor Bencik, Rudolf Mrlian. The author elucidates the basic principles of Bogatyriov's lectures entitled Folk Theatre, Folk Tales, The Tasks and Problems of Contemporary Ethnography, Folk Poetry and Literature. He does not discount the emergence of an avant guarde movement, of the so-called Slovak suprarealism, which has been indelibly imprinted in the social sciences in Slovakia.
