Summary/Abstract: Professor Václav Vojtíšek was the last director of the State Archival School in the years 1945–1949. He greatly contributed to the development of auxiliary sciences of history in our country. In connection with it, there have usually been mentioned diplomatics, heraldry and sphragistics, but Václav Vojtíšek also played an important role in the Czech codicology. He stood at the beginning of the Com-mission for Cataloguing and Study of Manuscripts which was administratively incorporated to the Archives of ČSAV (Czech Academy of Sciences) in 1955, the members of its staff there were successively three graduates of the State Archival School – František Čáda, Jiří Pražák and František Hoffmann. Although for all three men this work was originally “the last instance” after involuntary leave from the former place of work, they overcame new working tasks with a credit. They distinctively contributed to working out precious manuscript fonds and their research studies belong to the top in this field of work up to present.
