“The Letter of Pistos” from Patrasys: Some New Information

Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the republication of the lead letter, found on the site of Patrasys in 2012. The author proposes that it is the message from an unknown person to Xenyllos. The sender informs that Pyto was bought back from captivity, and that Pistos sends him the forage for pigs. Also, he asks Xenyllos to collect money from his debtors to cover the expenses for the ransom. The text offers a new word ἡ σίτη “feed for animals”, and a new personal name Σάπασις. Perhaps the beginning of the letter is a versification.
