Summary/Abstract: The author tried to put together a  collective biography of all players participating in the founding of the Communist International and focused, furthermore, on the issue of periodization of the Comintern history. The fact that the international organisation was a product of Bolshevik politics was not a problem for all of the activists. The failures of the revolutions in the West led to appreciation of the Bolshevik victory in Russia. The prehistory of the Comintern that ended up with the first congress was followed up by the phase after the founding of the Communist International that existed until 1943.
