Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to analyze the connection between the concepts of art, heritage, and video games using Brutalism as an example. It will demonstrate how phenomena can change, lose, and create new meanings over time, especially within the emerging field of digital media. The focus will be on examining the process of aestheticization that has transformed the perception of Brutalism, an architectural movement centered on human connection and humane living within the utopian postwar project. This transformation is observed through time and within the context of new digital visual culture. In a case study, we will dedicate our attention to three video games by Moshe Linke, that represent the end product of this process, and discuss the distinctions between Neo-Brutalism as portrayed in these video games and Brutalism as a historical architectural project. Additionally, we will examine how inherent qualities of architecture transform within the virtual worlds, as well as the concept of liminality, which prominently characterizes these walking simulators, creating a stark contrast to the original architectural inspiration.
