Summary/Abstract: The beginnings of the Peasants‘ Cavalry (Selská jízda), a mass organisation connected to the Agrarian Party and gathering thousands of riders in the First Czecho-slovak Republic, are usually associated with the activities of the so-called Peasants’ Banderia in the 19th century that took part in various festivities. One of these was the National Banderium in Zdice, established most probably as late as in 1868 and in 1882 organised as an association according to the Act No. 134/1867 Coll. The chairman of this Banderium was Josef Chott from Chodouň who, in 1920s, despite his advanced age, took active part in founding and organising the Peasants’ Cavalry in the Podbrdy Region. However, Podbrdy was not the only active region, another important one was situated in the North-eastern Bohemia and in the adjacent part of Central Bohemia, where the decisive impulse – mostly likely from the parliament deputy Bohumír Bradáč in Židovice near Kopidlno – came from. The Banderium in Zdice was incorporated into the Peasants’ Cavalry and progressively abandoned its traditional specifics. Its historicity and particularity reappeared when the Peasants’ Cavalry were dissolved under the Nazi Occupation and, subsequently, again after the Liberation of Czechoslovakia when the Banderium was not regarded as a part of the Peasants’ Cavalry since it existed according to the statutes from 1882. Documents on its existence, however, disappear after 1947, neither particularity, nor old tradition could ensure its survival.
