Summary/Abstract: A person walking his/her dog is a common phenomenon in streets and parks of today towns and villages. Most of these dog owners regularly pay fees for their dogs and take care of them. However, it is not a matter of common knowledge which conditions and rules applied regarding dogs and their owners in the latter half of the 19th century, in which way owners appreciated their pets, how they took care of them, which regulation they had to abide by and why. The paper focuses on work of Prague police, it pays attention to the regulation valid at that time and to hygienic situation, based on sources from the archives of Prague Police Headquarters I (PŘ I), Land Committee III (ZV III) and Bohemian Diet (ČZS).
