Summary/Abstract: In spite of differences in the functioning of insurance mediation in Poland and Germany, the intention of legislators was not only the transposition of the national legal regulations aimed at harmonizing them with EU legal requirements, but also a far-reaching protection of consumers. Consumer's position on the European insurance market has been strength- ened due to implementation of Insurance Mediation Directive. Certainly, the introduction of the new legal regulations and transition periods was also aimed at enabling the insurance mediation entities to match to the new business circumstances. Especially, the introduction of compulsory TPL insurance for independent agents and for the agents working for several insurers, has become a significant reason of quantitative changes among such intermedi- aries.
