Health insurance – chances and threats

Summary/Abstract: Private or voluntary health insurance does not play a significant role in most of the devel- oped countries. Yet it is a very complex issue and health insurance fulfills different roles that depend mainly on how the public system is set up. As private sources of financing the health care provision grow in importance, the article takes a look at different PHI types and their role in the system. The long-lasting discussion on introducing a system of PHI in Poland focuses on its capability to provide additional funds, ignoring potential threats that stem from different PHI types.
