Summary/Abstract: In the EU law, exceptions from the ban on agreements restricting competition are set by means of block exemption regulations. Since 1992, such regulations have been also issued for the economic insurance sector. However, they are temporary. The regulation on block exemptions from the ban on agreements restricting competition in the economic insurance sector issued in 2003 expired as of the end of the first quarter of 2010. Consequently, the European Commission revised it and assessed operation of the block exemption in this sec- tor, as a result of which it decided to maintain this exemption and then issued another, already the third, exemption regulation. In comparison with the previous exemption, the scope of cooperation of insurance companies exempted from its scope has, however, been narrowed down. What has been excluded was those types of cooperation which are not specific to the insurance sector. Certain changes have also been introduced with respect to terms and conditions of exemptions of allowed types of cooperation between insurers.
