Changes in health insurers of farmers

Summary/Abstract: Farmers, their spouses and household members pay only pension insurance and accident, health and maternity insurance. Their health insurance is paid by the Treasury. In 2011, the Treasury will allot about PLN 1.86 billion to that purpose.However, it will probably be the last year when the aforementioned solutions are applicable. The Constitutional Tribunal found financing health insurance for all farmers, regardless of their in- comes, to be unconstitutional. The aforementioned solutions will have to be changed by March 2012. Furthermore, due to farmers’ varied income positions, the new solutions are to be socially and economically justified.Finally, possible solutions regarding changes in financing farmers’ health insurance contributions should be mentioned. The contribution amount may depend on: the size of a farm in physical hectares; the size of a farm in standardised hectares; the economic size of a farm; earnedincome.
