FEDERICO GARCÍA LORCA, THE TRAVELER

Summary/Abstract: “When traveling, an endless series of natural pictures, types, colors, sounds parade, and our spirit would like to encompass everything and keep everything portrayed in the soul forever” – writes Federico García Lorca in Impressions and Landscapes, his first literary work. We can affirm, without exaggeration, that the literary career of the future poet and playwright began thanks to some excursions (1916–1917) organized by his university professor Martín Domínguez Berrueta. Lorca's second trip (1929–1930) was abroad and his destination was America. He spent almost nine months in the United States and three in Cuba. In his last years, thanks to the success of his theater, he again returned to America, this time to the Spanish-speaking part, Argentina and Uruguay (1933–1934). This article aims to present the influence of these trips on the personality and art of García Lorca, highlighting several works from his first works to those of his maturity.
