Summary/Abstract: On February 13, 2012 – in line with the indications included in PM Donald Tusk’s exposé of No- vember 18, 2011 – the government presented the act amending the Act on Old-Age and Disability Pensions from the Social Insurance Fund as well as certain other acts. The solutions proposed in the draft act are focussed on regulation of the target raising of the retirement age for men and women. Its justification shows that the changes are aimed to improve the financial situation of the Social Insurance Fund, increase potential pensions and make persons aged over 60 more active on the labour market. The discussion on the retirement age revealed the need to implement solutions concerning changes on the labour market and to strengthen the pro-family policy. The article attempts to ana- lyse the pros and cons of raising of the retirement age in Poland in the context of selected statisti- cal data on the pension insurance market.
