Summary/Abstract: On the global stage, the fight for women's rights has made significant progress. Women's right to a fair share of inheritance is no longer seen as an exception but rather as a rule in most parts of the world. The progress in legislation reflects the direction in which society has developed over the past few hundred years. There are still countries where equal rights are not yet considered part of the „norm,” and this limited vision affects the quality of life for women and even for children who are part of these societies. In this paper, I will attempt to demonstrate why equal inheritance rights between men and women are of significant importance, and how developments in legal systems have a major influence on social and economic consequences. I have chosen specific examples to highlight the fact that women from all social statuses and geographical areas are affected by this gender-based inequality. From women in developing countries to women in the British aristocracy.
