Summary/Abstract: The preservation and transmission of cultural heritage is a major concern at global and European level, involving wide-ranging debates on the protection of national and universal heritage. As a member state of the European Union, Romania values and protects its cultural heritage, an element of tradition and identity. At national level, the protection of cultural heritage is regulated by the Constitution, the supreme law of the state, as well as by infra-constitutional legislation. The Ministry of Culture plays an important institutional role in the preservation of the national cultural heritage, as well as the Romanian Orthodox Church and, within it, the Commission for Church Painting. This study examines, from a constitutional perspective, the role of the Romanian Orthodox Church in general and the Commission for Church Painting in particular in the transmission of cultural heritage and the protection of national heritage.
