CRIME PREVENTION – A MUST FOR ANY SOCIETY!

Summary/Abstract: The level, structure and dynamics of crime decisively influence the legal order and the quality of life in society, a fact that causes states to carry out extensive crime prevention actions. However, crime prevention is an extremely complex activity that involves both state bodies with specific powers as well as state bodies without specific powers, governments and commercial companies and, finally, any person. With such a wide range of activities and participants, there are of course controversies. These controversies refer to the notion of crime prevention, the diversity of preventive activities carried out by the authorities in particular and by society in general, the principles that govern crime prevention and the directions in which preventive activities must act. All these, which differ from one country to another, are analyzed in the form of a scientific concept to provide both criminologists and authorities, interested in improving preventive activities, a correct and up-to-date conceptual basis.
