Summary/Abstract: Folk music content in South Slavic areas has long been a good source of material for music education at the preschool age and at the age of lower grades of elementary school. The melodic-rhythmic structure of such songs, based on the folklore, is simplified in certain parts so that they can be suitable for performing with preschool and primary school children. Analyzing the folk songs of the South Slavic peoples and dances with singing in the melodic-rhythmic sense, certain specificities are singled out within the proposed examples of each nation. This paper presents some of the songs specific to the folklore of the people that can have a didactic function and can successfully contribute to the fulfillment of the outcomes of music education in preschool and primary school children.
