Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on written examples, reflecting language policy, such as inscriptions from the urban linguistic landscape in Shumen and Dobrich. The methods of collection, description and categorization of data are followed by qualitative analysis of the languages and language combinations. The combination between different languages in the ULL, the possible motivation of language choice and the relation with the European language policy are in the focus of attention. There is an emphasis on the the symbolic function of languages and the impact of English in the choice of business’s names. Several types of linguistic combinations and types of correspondences have been found: word for word translation in an inscription, partial translation or added information in one of the languages. Inscriptions in English have dominance over other foreign languages used in the ULL of Shumen and Dobrich.
