A STUDY ON THE REPRESENTATION OF "ANKARA ULUS HALİ" IN URBAN MEMORY

Summary/Abstract: Ankara Ulus Hali, designed by Robert Oerley in 1937, was built to serve the shopping needs of society; it became one of the important buildings of Ulus due to both its design and function. The building designed in accordance with the architectural understanding of the period; became a part of daily life in the city; It has merged with other commercial and social spaces around it. Unlike today's shopping areas, the Hal was not conceived as a ‘consumption-oriented’ space in design and use; it was planned as a place of collective practices that combine with the public texture of the street. For this reason, as a Republican period structure, Ulus Hali has social and social values. In this context, Ankara Ulus Hali, which is recorded as an important shopping point in the urban memory, is handled as a scene of historical and social changes; it is tried to read the equivalent in urban memory. The aim of the research carried out within the scope of this subject is to emphasize the importance of Ankara Ulus Hali as a urban value in the daily life of the society. For this purpose, a literature review was conducted on the subject; newspaper news about the place were reached. The research was designed as a qualitative study; the semantic value of space was interpreted in the light of the findings obtained through newspaper news about the subject. It is hoped that the results obtained in the study will contribute to the continuity of “Ulus Hali” in the city's memory and will guide new studies on the subject.
