THE ROLE OF OPEN SPACE SCULPTURE IN TERMS OF FUNCTIONALITY IN ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH SOCIETY

Summary/Abstract: Emerging with principles such as unity, proportion, scale, harmony, balance and symmetry, rhythm, and contrast, the functional sculpture placed in the public space is ready to communicate with the society. Together with the design process and its harmony with the physical structure, it can easily pass on the effect it wants to give to the individual. The word function, which is defined as the ability of an object to function, means fulfilling and realizing the needs and purposes in art in the art of sculpture. The progress of the sculpture in the open space where it came out to meet the society was chosen as the research subject in this study. A research was conducted on the question of what kind of functions the sculpture has in the communication with the society while it is located in the open area, which has positive or negative effects on people. While conducting the research, academic comprehensive written and visual sources related to the open space sculpture in the historical process were scanned. The subject is limited with examples of some modern artist names related to the subject.
