Summary/Abstract: Ulvi Cemal Erkin is one of the first-generation composers of Republic of Türkiye and a member of “The Turkish Five”. After his education at Paris Ecole Normale de Musique, Erkin returned to Turkey and worked both as a composer and a teacher. In order to spread the popularity of polyphonic music among Turkish people, he used many elements of Turkish folk music in his compositions. “Duyuşlar”, his composition for piano, has been performed and studied frequently since its composition in 1937. As one of the leading composers of contemporary Turkish music, Ulvi Cemal Erkin’s compositional style and his work “Duyuşlar” is considered to be a typical example of music policy of Republic of Türkiye.
