Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this study is to help students to determine the fundamental differences between formal and informal writing. Understanding these distinctions is essential for them to achieve effective written communication considering that these two styles have non-identical characteristics, serve specific purposes in dissimilar contexts which require different approaches. The aim of formal writing is to demonstrate a high level of professionalism in communicating ideas, whereas the informal writing aims to be accessible, creating a friendly tone.
