Summary/Abstract: The image of Japan presented to the Romanian public at the beginning of the twentieth century was the concern of several leading intellectuals. Beyond the exotic image of the Land of the Rising Sun, almost impossible to know directly due to the immense distances and lack of fast means of transport in the age to come, economic, political, strategic or cultural details have been collected or taken over by Romanian intellectuals from the literature of those who have directly known these lands. The purpose of this study is to underline the way in which Japan was first understood by one of the most brilliant minds in Romania and the public: G. POP TAȘCĂ, the Rector of the Academy of High Commercial and Industrial Studies between 1929-1931, the actual Academy for Economic Studies from Bucharest. The paper follows from a methodological point of view the complexity of the economic and political analysis of the Romanian thinker, renowned for researching and promoting capitalism and cooperative system in Romania through documentation from the specialized bibliography referring to Japan. Using classical research, analysis and synthesis tools, this paper aims to radiography the author's conception of Japan in the Meiji period.
