Higher trust in insurance companies in view of social diagnosis 2015

Summary/Abstract: Trust may be considered a very important precondition for active use of the offer of financial services, and, in particular, insurance products. In Poland, since the very beginning of the political transformation the credibility of financial institution was gradually on the increase, reaching – which was proved by the results of the subsequent Social Diagnoses – the highest level in 2007. However, the 2008 economic and financial crisis saw a visible decline in the trust in financial institutions. Currently, there is a pos- sibility of presenting this trust from before and after the crisis, as well as – which seems particularly important – the insurers’ credibility as of today. It can be said that insurance companies – as is the case with other financial institutions – find it difficult to regain the trust level from 2007, but insurers’ credibility in the years 2013–2015 increased, and – which may seem surprising – it happened in the period in which we saw a few events (limitation of the OF...s’ share in the pension system, problem of CHF mortgage loans, turbulence around unit-linked life insurance policies) which might have eroded the trust. What is also interesting is the characteristic juxtaposition of the credibility of financial insti- tutions, including insurance companies, with the public’s low trust in state institutions which are, after all, expected to be more active, take relevant interventions and regulations which ensure consumer’s protection on the insurance market.
