Summary/Abstract: The study aims to unfold the literary roots of Dániel Varró’s book titled The Thirsty Troll: Little Viking Legendary published 2018 with special attention to genres, verse forms and motifs. Taking the author’s former work into consideration, it is hardly surprising these qualities and attributes are quite heterogenic in this text. The analysis focuses on the themes and patterns of children’s and fantasy literature, taking the influences of 20th century popular culture into account. Furthermore all of the four stories of this book are written in different forms of verse, evoking additional, different literary traditions. Regarding the The Thirsty Troll relations to contemporary cultural trends must also be considered, just as the assessment of the potential audience considering the nature of the book’s allusions and topics.
