Summary/Abstract: There were 51 hospital parishes in the Polish part of the Diocese of Cracow. Each had its own pastor, church and endowment. An integral part of each foundation was the hospital and the poor living there. At the end of the 18th century, there were about 200 of them, of whom we can recognise by name. In the case of a dozen or so, we know their place of origin, age and condition. The residents’ lives had their own rhythm. It was marked by daily prayers learned by the preceptor, manual work, and almsgiving.
