Summary/Abstract: In 2021 we celebrated the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Dominic. This jubilee provides the appropriate opportunity to talk in Hungarian about a gap-filling volume (Saint Dominique, de l’ordre des fréres prêcheurs. Témoignages écrits fin XIIe– XIVe siècle) that can be the starting point for further research on the life of Saint Dominic and on the beginnings of the order he founded. The study presents the mentioned volume and its background, briefly referring to the first narrative sources about Saint Dominic, and by an example it illustrates the difficulties in approaching the “authentic St. Dominic”.
