Summary/Abstract: The present article takes into account the problem of space and time from a secularistic and, also, a spiritual point of view, trying to demonstrate that natural space and time could be interpreted as re enchanted or transfigured in the realm of art, which retrieves the prerogatives of religion, in the disenchanted today’s world. We also argue that the profane view of the space and time as disenchanted is invalidated by the very behaviour of the unreligious person, who manifests a tendency towards escaping the material space and time through ceremonial or leisure activities and art. The article also explains the sense of Rudolf Otto’s concept of ”numinous” exemplifying it in Chinese painting.
