What is the role of the intellectual today? How to overcome the machinations in which we are trapped

Summary/Abstract: My contribution will first examine the term “crisis”, which concerns the “system” into which each of us is more or less consciously thrown. Such a “system” is increasingly taking the form of a machination. I will try to show how our “system” has gradually consolidated itself within an “uprooting of thought” which has now become the foundation of its entire structure. This can be observed in the collapse of the university system, as the university is no longer the place responsible for the construction of fundamental and radical knowledge. In this situation, on the basis of a functionalized “culture” subject to the dominant political and economic logic, an uninterrupted series of instrumentalizations have led to the loss of the true meaning of what is, in contrast, fundamental and radical. I will attempt to develop a concept of the responsibility of the intellectual today within such a “system”. It should also be asked how a new era of “reconstruction” could be initiated.
